Movement Is Prayer: An Introduction to HaVla
In many traditions, movement was never separate from worship. Our ancestors danced at births and at harvests, in celebration and in grief. The body was understood as a temple, and moving it with intention was a way of giving thanks. HaVla carries that understanding forward.
What is HaVla?
HaVla is a gentle, flowing movement practice that blends breath, stretching and rhythm. It is designed for women of every age, shape and fitness level. There is nothing to perform and nothing to prove. You simply arrive as you are and let the body lead.
Why it matters
Stress settles in the body: in the shoulders, the hips, the jaw. Slow, mindful movement helps release what we carry, improves circulation and flexibility, and brings the mind back home to the present moment. Many women tell us they leave a session feeling lighter, more grounded and more connected to themselves.
How to begin at home
Find a quiet space and play music that moves you. Stand with your feet rooted and take three deep breaths. Let your arms float up as you inhale and fall as you exhale. Sway the hips. Roll the shoulders. Follow what feels good for ten minutes, then close with stillness and gratitude.

HaVla sessions are offered through Wellness Alley, at our workshops and retreats, and for groups and communities. We travel anywhere, so if you would like to bring HaVla to your women's circle, church or organization, reach out and let us plan something beautiful together.
Please listen to your body and consult your healthcare provider before beginning any new movement practice.
